Mercantile accounts and family and business correspondence, mainly for 1840-1925, with legal and other papers, revealing much about government and politics in South Carolina (1885-1915) and the business practices of a cotton broker. Includes letters concerning Bivens' attendance at Sheridan Classical School in Orangeburg, S.C.; cards from Governor Coleman L. Blease of South Carolina; letters concerning a son, John Lucas Bivens, who attended Clemson College; account books of D.T. Bivens of Ridgeville, S.C.; school trustees' records of Delman's School House in Collins Township; household accounts; and a criminal trial docket (1909-1922) belonging to George W. Elsey, Bivens' predecessor as justice of the peace.
